What is the difference between Spray Foam and Mineral Wool?

Although both products are excellent at insulating your home, the products differ in a number of ways. Spray foam is a polyurethane material, like you would find in your bedding , furniture , car seats etc. Mineral wool is made from glass, stone and resins. Spray Foam is usually installed at rafter level in your attic whereas mineral wool is rolled out between and over your ceiling joists. The major difference on a heat retention point of view is that Spray foam has the ability to create an airtight seal and can easily cover difficult to access areas.

Will additional insulation in my attic not cause issues with condensation?

It is true that too much insulation can cause condensation issues. The opposite is also true. The ideal scenario which we set out to achieve through all our projects, is a perfect balance of insulation and ventilation. An in depth assessment will determine if your attics current ventilation systems are up to the spec needed to add insulation. This concept is the same for any type of insulation we use, with great attention to the specifications set out by ‘ Part l of The Building Regulations’ - gov.ie - Technical Guidance Document L - Conservation of Fuel and Energy – Dwellings

How much can I expect to save on my heating bill?
